One of this week's iBerkshires.com/Adams Community Bank Athletes of the Week helped lead his team to its first win of the season. The other helped her team bounce back from a rare loss.

Mason Alfonso, a junior at Pittsfield High, had a hat trick on Wednesday to help the Wahconah coop hockey team to a 5-1 win over Southwick.

After dominating the opening stages but settling for just a pair of goal, Wahconah exploded for three in the third period off the stick of Afonso.

"They were attacking our guys, and we got a little frustrated with that," Alfonso said.

"[The third period] meant a lot because I wasn't having that great of a season. But then I got those three goals."

Alfonso said he thinks his squad can use the confidence it acquired in Wednesday's win as a springboard to bigger things in the second half of the season, starting with Saturday's game at Chicopee Comp.

Lexi Garvey and the Pittsfield girls face their next test on Tuesday, when they open a home-and-home with Berkshire County North Division rival Hoosac Valley in Moynihan Field House.

On Friday, Garvey had a monster game in a 10-point win at Monument Mountain, scoring 20 points and grabbing 21 rebounds.

That victory came on the heels of an overtime loss to 2018 Western Mass Division 1 finalist Minnechaug; Garvey scored 11 and pulled down 21 boards in that game.

For the season, she is averaging a double-double with 16 points and 14 rebounds per night for the 8-4 Generals.
