BUCKLAND, Mass. – Natalie Lanoue scored 13 points Tuesday to lead the Mohawk Trail girls basketball team to a 40-24 win over McCann Tech in the Hornets’s season opener.

McCann Tech rallied for 14 points in the fourth quarter but could not overcome a slow start. Mohawk Trail led, 21-9, at half-time.

“The girls showed a lot of effort and fight right until the end,” McCann Tech coach Justin Kratz said. “We only suited up seven, so we were short-handed due to illness and injuries.

“We made a run at them late but just didn’t have enough gas in the tank and had some foul trouble at the end so we weren’t able to make it closer down the stretch. All the girls played really hard.”

Brooke Reynolds and Aiden Champney each scored seven points for McCann Tech, which got six from Hannah Boisvert.

The Hornets (0-1) host Ludlow next Tuesday.
