SHEFFIELD, Mass. – Emily Steuernagle scored 24 points Thursday to lead the Mount Everett girls basketball team to a 35-31 win over McCann Tech.

“Emily has done a great job of playing a position she's not really comfortable with and hit a lot of big shots tonight,” Mount Everett coach Joshua King said. “Makayla [Carpenter] played with a ton of confidence in the third quarter and hit some big shots to help build the lead going into the fourth quarter.”

Carpenter finished with 10 points, including a pair of 3-pointers in the third.

After entering the last eight minutes behind, 24-21, McCann Tech rallied to take a lead, in part thanks to Brooke Reynolds, who scored all six of her points in the quarter.

“McCann was able to take the lead late in the fourth, and rather than us fold under pressure and lose composure we hit some big shots at the end and finished off the game at the free throw line to seal the game,” King said.

Steuernagle was 3-for-4 at the line, and Aliyah Creamer made a foul shot in the fourth.

Hannah Boisvert scored 10 points to lead McCann Tech, which got six from Isabella Dodge.

“[McCann Tech coach Justin Kratz] and myself are in very similar situations with kids working extremely hard just sometimes the ball doesn't bounce your way but credit to him and his girls for never quitting and playing for all four quarters,” King said.

“It's hard on these kids not always winning but to continuously fight shows a lot about their character as people and that will go a long way in life.”

Mount Everett (2-10) goes to Connecticut’s Housatonic Valley Regional on Friday.

McCann Tech (1-10) hosts Lee on Friday night.
