BRATTLEBORO, Vt. -- A big third-quarter push by Taylor Bird and the Brattleboro girls' basketball team was the difference in the Colonels' 52-41 home win over Wahconah on Friday night.

Bird scored 10 of her team's 19 points in the frame, turning a one-point Warriors' lead at halftime into a six-point edge for the hosts heading into the fourth quarter. Bird finished with 12 points in the game, while teammate Meghan Powell led the Colonels with a 14-point effort.

"We gave up some big hoops in the third quarter, followed by some missed opportunities in the fourth that hurt us in this one," Wahconah head coach June Blake said. "Bird came up big for them in the third. We were within five points late in the fourth but came up empty on several possessions late in the game. Brattleboro hit their free throws to put it away."

Senior guard Gabby Lavinio hit a pair of 3-pointers to finish with a game-high 15 points for the Warriors. Classmate Shannon Lussier added 11 points and four rebounds for Wahconah, which travels back to Vermont on Tuesday for a game against Mount Anthony at 7:30 p.m.
