Mount Everett Names Valedictorian, Salutatorian

SHEFFIELD, Mass. — Mount Everett Regional School is proud to announce Gabriella Makuc as valedictorian and Samantha Swartz as the salutatorian of the class of 2012.

The graduation will take place on Saturday, June 2, at 10 a.m. at Tanglewood in Lenox.

Makuc is the daughter of Mary and Mark Makuc of Monterey. In addition to being president of the National Honor Society, she is an active member of the Students Who Achieve Goodness club. She has been an active member of the school choir and serves as the first chair trumpet in the school band and also has studied and accompanied several school musicals. She displays her commitment to the community and passion for music by volunteering her time to play music at community events.

Makuc will attend Lawrence University in Appleton, Wisc. She is pursuing a double degree in music and literary studies.


Swartz is the daughter of Diane and Frederick Swartz of Sandisfield. She is vice president of the National Honor Society and is actively involved in the Robotics teams, theater, yearbook and the "Mount Everett Morning Show." She has also formed Mount Everett's first Technology Challenge Team.

She was a recipient of the National Center for Women & Information Technology Award, which speaks to her commitment and achievement in the field of technology and robotics. Makuc will attend Worcester Polytechnic Institute to pursue a degree in robotics engineering.

Pittsfield Seeking Volunteers for Flag Distribution

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — The city of Pittsfield's Department of Veterans' Services is looking for volunteers to assist with placing flags and markers at Veterans' gravesites. 
 
The installation of flags will occur between May 6 to May 11, 2024.
 
Volunteers are encouraged to wear comfortable, appropriate apparel and shoes, walking will be required throughout the cemeteries to place these flags. Instructions, flags, and markers will be provided, as well as soft refreshments and snacks.
