Harold R. Dupee, 93
NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — Harold "Pop" Russel Dupee, 93, of Barbour Street died Sunday, April 21, 2013, at the Mount Greylock Extended Care Facility in Pittsfield.
Born in Adams on Nov. 9, 1919, a son of Ernest and Eura Brouseau Dupee, he attended schools in Adams.
A proud and decorated Army veteran of World War II, he served with the rank of corporal under Gen. MacArthur's command in New Guinea and the Philippines.
Mr. Dupee and his wife, the former Rita T. Dargie, ran the Willows Motel in Williamstown for 17 years. He was also the proprietor and operator of the Dupee Floor Sanding business, which is still a family owned operation.
He was a communicant of the former Our Lady of Mercy Church. He enjoyed many years hiking Mount Greylock with his children and grandchildren and loved gardening. He had a kind and generous heart and enjoyed helping people.
His wife, whom he married June 4, 1946, in the former Notre Dame Church in Adams, died in 2003.
He leaves two daughters, Sharon Krzanik of Adams and Joan Fortin of North Adams; three sons, Harold Dupee Jr. of Cheshire and David Dupee and Richard Dupee, both of North Adams; a sister, Bernice LaPlante; 20 grandchildren, 42 great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by two brothers, Francis and William Dupee; a sister, Ruth LaFrance, and a great-grandson, Jacob Fortin.
FUNERAL NOTICE — A Liturgy of Christian Burial for Mr. Dupee will be celebrated Friday, April 26, at 11 from St. Elizabeth of Hungary Church. Burial will be at a later date.
Calling hours will be Friday morning from 9 10:30 at Flynn & Dagnoli-Montagna Home for Funerals, West Chapels, 521 West Main Street, North Adams. Memorial donations can be made to the ROPES Program or the Activities Department of Mount Greylock Extended Care Facility through the funeral home.
