Richard J. Parkhurst, 68
NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — Richard Joseph "Dick" Parkhurst, 68, of 189 Liberty St. died Thursday, May 2, 2013, at his home.
Born in Adams on Aug. 4, 1944, a son of Philip and Mildred Herzog Parkhurst, he attended schools in Adams.
He was a member of the Massachusetts National Guard for 25 years, obtaining the rank of sergeant.
Mr. Parkhurst was employed as a meat cutter at the former Adams Supermarket for more than 25 years.
He was a member of the North Adams Legion Post 125 and loved fishing and spending time with his family and grandchildren.
His wife, the former Irene Duda, died April 29, 1979.
He leaves two daughters, Kristina Ostrowski and her husband, Mat, and Brenda Parkhurst and her longtime companion, Joseph Medeiros, all of North Adams; a son, Patrick Parkhurst and his wife, Dawn, of Pownal, Vt.; three sisters, Sandra Bryant of North Adams, Joyce White of Dalton and Robin Friener of Adams; two brothers, William Parkhurst of Adams and Robert Parkhurst of Long Island, N.Y.; five grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his sister Nancy Rondeau.
FUNERAL NOTICE — Funeral services for Mr. Parkhurst will take place Friday, May 10, at 7 at Flynn & Dagnoli-Montagna Home for Funerals, West Chapels, 521 West Main St. North Adams.
Calling hours will be Friday from 4 to 7 at the funeral home. Memorial donations are suggested for the American Cancer society through the funeral home.
