Edward A. Cancro, 84

CLARKSBURG, Mass. — Edward Anthony Cancro, 84, of North Adams, a longtime resident of Clarksburg, died Saturday, Oct. 5, 2013, at North Adams Regional Hospital. Born in North Adams on Dec. 6, 1928, son of Anthony and Rose Pessolano Cancro, he attended local schools and was a graduate of Drury High School in North Adams. A Navy veteran of World War II, he served with the Army's 101st Airborne Division during the Korean War. Mr. Cancro was 60-year life member of Local 98 IUOE, through which he was employed as a heavy equipment/crane operator until his retirement. He also had served on the union's Executive Board for many years. He was a member of First Baptist Church of North Adams and a past worthy patron of Lafayette Greylock Lodge AF & AM. He was the beloved husband of the former Susan Bishop, whom he married on April 17, 1954, at First Universalist Church in North Adams. Besides his wife of 59 years, he leaves his daughter and son-in-law, Lisa and Robert Moreau of Lunenburg; his sister, Rosalie Morgan of Pownal, Vt.; his brother, Francis Cancro of North Adams; his grandson and his wife, Jonathan and Valerie Cancro of South Salem, N.Y.,; his great-grandson, Jackson Cancro of South Salem; and cousins, nieces and nephews, including his core support group of his cousin Elaine Leonard and her husband, Lawrence, of Williamstown, nieces Lois Filiault and Corrina Cancro,both of North Adams, and Doreen Dix and her husband, Michael, of Plainville. His brother Carmen G. Cancro predeceased him. FUNERAL NOTICE — A committal service for Mr. Cancro will be at a later date in Clarksburg Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Camp Ashmere, c/o First Baptist Church, 131 Main St. North Adams, MA 01247 or the Clarksburg Volunteer Fire Department, Cross Road, Clarksburg, MA 01247. I'm sorry to hear of your loss. Mr. Cancro was a nice man who always went out of his way to be friendly to me with a big smile on his face when he dropped his grandson off at camp. He will be missed.
