Henry E. Bounds, 65
FLORIDA, Mass. — Henry Eugene Bounds, 65, of 74 Monroe Road died Saturday, Feb. 22, 2014, at North Adams Regional Hospital after he was stricken earlier in the day. A member of the Florida Memorial Committee, he was a former member of the Board of Selectmen, School Committee and Finance Committee.
Born in North Adams on Aug. 4, 1948, son of Warren and Bessie Holt Bounds, he attended schools in the town of Florida and graduated from Drury High School in North Adams.
A veteran of the Vietnam War, he served in the Army.
Mr. Bounds was last employed by Yellow Freight Co. for more than 20 years until his retirement. He was a member of the Teamsters Union, had previously driven trucks for Paramount and MGM movie companies and, for many years, competed in National Truck Championships across the country.
A minister, he was the interim pastor of Florida Baptist Church, where he was also an active member, serving on the Board of Deacons and as a trustee. He leaves behind his church family who he loved so much and his adult Sunday School class, who inspired him every week. He was also a volunteer at the Friendship Center in North Adams and helped people with transportation to hospitals.
He also was a volunteer for many years with the Adams Agricultural Fair, working as a judge for the fairs local photography contest and the fairs official photographer. He loved to pursue his passion of photography by filming weddings, local events, and views from our natural landscapes on adventures with his beloved dog, Ginger.
He and his wife, the former Sheila Gregory, were married on Sept. 5, 1970, in Cheshire.
Besides his wife, he leaves a daughter, Jennifer A. Therrien and her husband, Thomas, of Savoy; a son, Rick Bounds of Westborough; his brother, William Bounds and his wife, Becky, of Jackson, Miss.; his twin sister, Henrietta Pyeatt and her husband, Robert, of Broken Arrow, Okla.; his granddaughter, Nora Bessie Therrien of Savoy, who was the apple of grandpa's eye, and nieces and nephews. He also leaves behind his extended McDonald family, especially his dear friend Phyllis Blair.
The family asks that in Mr. Bound's memory, take time today to extend a hand to someone in love, friendship or support.
FUNERAL NOTICE — The funeral for Mr. Bounds will be Thursday, Feb. 27, at 11 a.m. at Florida Baptist Church. Burial will be in the spring in Florida Church Cemetery.
Calling hours will be Wednesday, Feb. 26, from 4 to 7 at Flynn & Dagnoli-Montagna Home for Funerals, West Chapels, 521 West Main St., North Adams. Please omit flowers. Memorial contributions may be made to Florida Baptist Church or the Friendship Center in care of the funeral home.
