David M. Kittler, 74
CHESHIRE, Mass. — David M. Kittler, 74, of 121 Depot St. died Saturday, May 30, 2015, at Berkshire Medical Center in Pittsfield.
Born in Adams on June 17, 1940, son of Emil and Albertine Bourdeau Kittler, he was raised in Cheshire and was a 1958 graduate of the former Adams High School.
A longtime farmer in Cheshire, Mr. Kittler had worked as a saw filer at the former J.W. Kelly Lumber in Pittsfield for more than 25 years. He had also worked at the former Gowdy-Shandoff for 10 years as an office assembler and at Bob's Camper in Hancock. He retired in 2010.
He was a communicant of St. Mary of the Assumption Church and served the town of Cheshire as a member of the Planning Board and Zoning Board. He enjoyed antiques, flea markets, reading and watching "Jeopardy." He was also well versed in Greek mythology, opera and Cheshire history. He was extremely proud of his family.
His wife, the former Elizabeth Rand, whom he married on Feb. 2, 1961, died on Aug. 3, 1993.
He leaves his longtime companion and fiancée, Eileen F. Moore of Cheshire; eight daughters, Sandra I. Martin and her husband, Donald, of South Bend, Ind., Marian L. Rennell and her husband, Bryan, of the town of Florida, Carol A. Raymond and her husband, Thomas, of Cheshire, Virginia M. Danielsen and her husband, Scott, of New Lebanon, N.Y., Catherine M. Martel and her husband, James, of Adams, Sarah M. Sanford and her husband, William, of Stephentown, N.Y., Elizabeth M. Gwara and her husband, Richard, of Dalton and Judith C. Zmijak and her husband, Henry, of Lancaster; a son; John E. Garlin and his wife, Donna, of Stamford, Vt.; a brother, Emil R. Kittler and his wife, Eleanor, of Cheshire; a sister, Joan Wilk and her husband, Stanley, of Cheshire; 17 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by a great-grandson, Ian Lemaire.
FUNERAL NOTICE — Funeral services for Mr. Kittler will be held Friday, June 5, at 10:15 a.m from the Dery-Cheshire Funeral Home followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 11 at St. Mary of the Assumption Church, celebrated by the Rev. David Raymond, pastor. Burial will follow in Cheshire Cemetery.
