Dorothy M. Sweet, 90

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. - Dorothy M. Sweet, 90, of 510 Henderson Road, died on Wednesday, July 8, 2015. Born in Conshohocken, Pa., on Nov. 7, 1924, to Henry and Ida Cameron Fowler, her family moved to Massachusetts when she was a child and she was educated in the North Adams school system Mrs. Sweet retired from the Los Angeles school district. She married George M. Sweet of Williamstown on June 22, 1946, in First Baptist Church in North Adams. Mr. Sweet, a contractor, built their first home on Bridges Road. They resided there until 1959, when they moved to Reseda, Calif., returning to retire in Williamstown in 1983, when Mr. Sweet built their home on family property on Henderson Road. She enjoyed crafts and oil painting and was always willing to teach others any way she could. She was a member of the friendship club, the Jollee Circle, and was a reading buddy at the Harper Center for many years. She was also an active member of Stamford (Vt.) Community Church. Mrs. Sweet's family was her life. She was a devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Husband of 51 years died in 1998; she also was predeceased by her son, George Richard Sweet, in 1992. She leaves a daughter, Cheryl Diamond of Williamstown; four grandchildren, Shannon Sharp of North Adams, Steven Diamond of Williamstown, and Patrick Sweet and his wife, Leslie, and Matthew Sweet and his wife, Maranantha, all of New Hampshire; four great-grandchildren, Damian Sharp, Lauren Diamond, Brooke Sweet and Bryan Sweet; her daughter-in-law, Terrie Sweet of New Hampshire, and many nephews, nieces and cousins. The last of her family of five, she was predeceased by siblings Janice Harriman, James Fowler, William Fowler and Emma Banas. FUNERAL NOTICE - Services for Mrs. Sweet will be celebrated on Monday, July 13, at 11 a.m. at Sherman Burbank Memorial Chapel. Burial will be in Eastlawn Cemetery immediately following the services. At the family’s request, flowers are omitted. Donations may be made to Stamford Community Church through Flynn & Dagnoli-Montagna Home for Funerals, West Chapels, 521 West Main St., North Adams, MA 01247.
