Leon LaMere, 74

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — Leon LaMere, 74, of 9 Marion Ave. died on Friday, Dec. 11, 2015, at Berkshire Medical Center in Pittsfield after a short illness.

Born in Easthampton on Jan. 12, 1941, a son of Leo J. LaMere and Martha Broz LaMere, he graduated from Easthampton High School with the class of 1959 and from Hampden School of Pharmacy in 1963.

A registered pharmacist, Mr. LaMere had been employed at the former Nassif’s Pharmacy for 25 years. He also worked at the former Apothecary Hall and North Adams Regional Hospital. He and his wife, the former Claire A. Veilleux, owned and operated Tropical Gardens Pet Center in North Adams from 1979 to 1996.

He served on the board of the North Adams Chamber of Commerce in the 1980s. He was an assistant Scout Leader with Troop 88 in North Adams for more than a decade starting around 1980. He enjoyed camping with the scouts and teaching survival skills.

He enjoyed traveling with his wife. They took trips to the Caribbean, Mexico, Jamaica, Barbados, Hawaii, Caymen Islands, Miami and to Italy. They especially loved the Grand
Strand area of South Carolina.

Besides his wife of 53 years, he leaves a daughter, Sandra LaMere Taber and her husband, Scott, of Foster, R.I.; a son, Matthew LaMere, and his wife, Elizabeth Gabriel-LaMere of Concord, N.C.; a sister, Dawn LaMere Carrier of Easthampton, and several nieces and nephews.

FUNERAL NOTICE — At Mr. LaMere's request, there will be no services. Flynn & Dagnoli-Montagna Home for Funerals, Central Chapels, 74 Marshall St., North Adams.is entrusted with arrangements.
