Robert W. Haskins Sr., 93

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — Robert William Haskins Sr., 93, of North Adams died Thursday, June 2, 2016, at Berkshire Medical Center.  

He was born in North Adams, on April 20, 1923, son of Herman Arthur and Katherine (Doyle) Haskins. He attended Drury High School. He was a veteran of WWII, serving with the US Army.

Robert was last employed as a plumber with Ashley Swift Plumbing Company until his retirement. Before that he worked for many years at Sprague Electric Co. He was a communicant of St. Elizabeth of Hungary Church.

He was a lover of music, especially the Glenn Miller Band, and you could always find him dancing when the opportunity was there.  Bob was a diehard Boston Red Sox and New England Patriots fan and was also a very passionate follower of politics.  

Survivors include his wife, Florence Dolores (Scrivens) Haskins, whom he married on September 13, 1947; one daughter, Marcia Ann Martello of Pittsfield; one son, Robert W. Haskins Jr. and his wife Teresa of North Adams; four grandchildren, Lisa Jamros and her husband Ed, Stanley Martello and his wife Karen, Mateo Martello and his partner Chadwick Judge, and Adam Beer; four great-grandchildren, Jacob, Rachael, Cory and Heather; one brother, Kenneth Haskins of North Adams; and nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by four sisters, Helen, Katherine, Mary, Barbara; one brother, Harold; and his son in law, Gino Martello.  The family would like to sincerely thank his extraordinary caregiver, Hollyann Virginia Flores.

Funeral notice: The funeral for Robert Haskins Sr. will be Monday, June 6, 2016, at 10:15 a.m. from Flynn & Dagnoli-Montagna Home for Funerals, West Chapels, 521 West Main St., North Adams, followed by a Funeral Mass at 11 a.m. at St. Elizabeth of Hungary Church. Burial will follow in Southview Cemetery.

Calling hours are Sunday, June 5, from 2-4 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorial donations may be made to The Jimmy Fund in care of the funeral home.

My sincere sympathy to Flo & the Haskins family. I first met Bob when I worked at Sprague Electric in 1968. Bob was such a gentleman with a very friendly smile & wonderful personality. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him. Rip Bob

Bob and I were long-term, friendly acquaintances from our contact when we both worked at Sprague. Always a friendly greeting, inquiries about myself and my wife and whatever might be the topic of the day. My sincere sympathy to the Haskin families for your loss.
