Michael S. Bobowiec Jr., 74

STAMFORD, Vt. — Michael S. Bobowiec Jr., 74, of Stamford, Vt., died on Thursday, July 28, 2016, at Berkshire Medical Center after a short illness, with his family by his side.

He was born in Adams, Mass., on Sept. 24, 1941, the son of the late Michael and Gertrude (Herrmann) Bobowiec. He attended schools in Adams and graduated from the former Adams High School. He then went on to receive his Bachelor's Degree in Science from the former North Adams State College.

Mr. Bobowiec taught science initially in the Bennington school district and then for more than 30 years in the Adams-Cheshire Regional School District until retiring. He was known to be a strict, but entertaining and inspirational, teacher who had an insatiable love of learning, which he enjoyed sharing with his students and friends.

He was a member of the Stamford Community Church. He was also a member of the Stamford Sportsman's Club and the National Rifle Association. He was an avid gun enthusiast and an advocate for gun safety. He had also taught Judo classes at the North Adams YMCA. He loved living in Vermont, delighted in teaching his sons about geology and astronomy, and was never more enthusiastic than when yelling "Fire in the hole!" before setting off a cannon in the backyard.

Mr. Bobowiec is survived by a son, Paul Bobowiec of Stamford; a sister, Marion King of Lanesborough, Mass.; his former wife, Carolyn Bobowiec, and his daughter-in-law, Terry Bobowiec, both of Stamford; and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

He was predeceased by his son, Daniel Bobowiec, in 2015; and a sister, Margaret, in 1997.

Funeral notice: The funeral will be held on Sunday, Aug. 7, 2016, at 1:30 p.m. at the Stamford Community Church, Main Road, Stamford. The Rev. James LaMothe, Pastor, will officiate. Burial will follow in Millard Cemetery, Stamford. There are no calling hours.

Memorial donations may be made to the Stamford Volunteer Fire Department, 142 Stebbins Lane, Stamford, VT 05352. The Paciorek Funeral Home, 13 Hoosac St., Adams, is in charge of arrangements.

Recollections & Sympathy For the Family

Marion,
I am so very sorry for your loss. I remember so vividly how much your brother meant to you--you were good friends not just brother and sister. I was also stunned to read that you lost your nephew in 2015! I'm so sad for you. I think of you so often--you were my first friend in the "real" world.

Well my little chickadees this here is a 5-5-2-2 rather than a 10-4. I catch myself saying this once a week. Great teacher and an absolute bright star amongst my memories of 8th grade. Rip Mr. B

Sorry for your loss. Mikey was a very funny and a amazing guy. I knew him when were younger. Loss touch when he went to college. Thanks for the memories Mike.

My condolences to the family. He was by far the best and most entertaining teacher I had growing up in Adams.

Inspiring is the perfect word to describe him. I'll always remember those "quicky quizzes," his signature phrase "pretty neat ay," and his experiments that shocked us, both figuratively and literally. Grades were fair and based on a personal responsibility to study. We learned and were inspired by Mr. B.

Mr B. And his bird whistles. What a great teacher. He made a difference in so many of our lives. God bless him, he was a very special man!! Condolences to his family. Very sad for your loss.

Mr. Bobowiec was a great teacher. I still remember most of the elements names and abbreviations. I'll also never forget what phosphorus does when exposed to H2O. I ended up getting a chemistry set and spent hours in the basement working on chemical reactions, viewing all sorts of oddities under the microscope and torching magnesium strips (thank god i didn't burn the house down). He was an inspiration! We were all lucky to be taught by such a guy.

His class was the bright spot during an otherwise dull day. He brought science alive for us and he made it fun. We all have lost a very special man.

My deepest sympathies. Please know what a difference he made in all his students lives. I chuckle at the word "strict" however. Who can forget his famous lines: "hit the lights gorgeous" every time a film strip was going to play or "that's a Mickey Mouse answer" when you had no clue. Oh God who can forget sulfer bomb days and how bad the hallway would stink after. Or those awesome ties he wore. He was one of the good ones you never forgot.RIP

Mr. B was a great teacher! The only class I didn't want to skip. RIP Mr. B.

My deepest condolences to his family!
