Michael S. Bobowiec Jr., 74

STAMFORD, Vt. — Michael S. Bobowiec Jr., 74, of Stamford, Vt., died on Thursday, July 28, 2016, at Berkshire Medical Center after a short illness, with his family by his side.
He was born in Adams, Mass., on Sept. 24, 1941, the son of the late Michael and Gertrude (Herrmann) Bobowiec. He attended schools in Adams and graduated from the former Adams High School. He then went on to receive his Bachelor's Degree in Science from the former North Adams State College.
Mr. Bobowiec taught science initially in the Bennington school district and then for more than 30 years in the Adams-Cheshire Regional School District until retiring. He was known to be a strict, but entertaining and inspirational, teacher who had an insatiable love of learning, which he enjoyed sharing with his students and friends.
He was a member of the Stamford Community Church. He was also a member of the Stamford Sportsman's Club and the National Rifle Association. He was an avid gun enthusiast and an advocate for gun safety. He had also taught Judo classes at the North Adams YMCA. He loved living in Vermont, delighted in teaching his sons about geology and astronomy, and was never more enthusiastic than when yelling "Fire in the hole!" before setting off a cannon in the backyard.
Mr. Bobowiec is survived by a son, Paul Bobowiec of Stamford; a sister, Marion King of Lanesborough, Mass.; his former wife, Carolyn Bobowiec, and his daughter-in-law, Terry Bobowiec, both of Stamford; and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
He was predeceased by his son, Daniel Bobowiec, in 2015; and a sister, Margaret, in 1997.
Funeral notice: The funeral will be held on Sunday, Aug. 7, 2016, at 1:30 p.m. at the Stamford Community Church, Main Road, Stamford. The Rev. James LaMothe, Pastor, will officiate. Burial will follow in Millard Cemetery, Stamford. There are no calling hours.
