Edward E. Roberts, 74

ADAMS, Mass. — Mr. Edward Ernest Roberts, 74, of 20 South Willow St., Adams, died Monday evening, August 15, 2016, at Berkshire Medical Center in Pittsfield.
He was born in Pittsfield on May 5, 1942, son of the late Ernest E. and Violet R. (Conklin) Roberts. He attended Pittsfield schools, graduating from St. Joseph's High School with the Class of 1959. He received an associate's degree in Arts from Berkshire Community College, and received his Bachelor's and Master's degrees in English from the former North Adams State College (now MCLA).
He was a Veteran of the United States Air Force, serving from 1960 until his Honorable Discharge as an Airman First Class in 1964.
Mr. Roberts was an English teacher at Hoosac Valley High School in Cheshire for 35 years, until retiring in June of 2002. While teaching at Hoosac, he was the director of the Senior Class plays, and was a strong supporter of HVHS athletics.
Before he began his teaching career, he worked at the former Coughlin's Liquor Store in Pittsfield, and the former Schweitzer Paper Mill in Lee.
He was a communicant of the Parish of St. John Paul II at Notre Dame des Sept Douleurs Church in Adams. He was a member of the Massachusetts Teacher's Association and had served as a member of the Adams Housing Authority.
He was an avid fan of the Boston sports teams, enjoyed reading, and loved to take trips to Cape Cod with his family. He was an avid golfer, and spent his childhood at the Pittsfield Boys Club besting the other kids at carams. As a young man, he enjoyed music and was the piano player for the former Tex LaMountain Band.
He is survived by his wife, the former Carol A. Bonito, whom he married on August 19, 1967; three daughters, Rachel Morandi and her husband Fran of Bellingham, Mass., Angela Dolber and her husband John of Whitinsville, Mass., and Donna Roberts of Orange, Calif.; a sister, Therese Ann Standring and her husband Gordon of The Villages, Fla.; two granddaughters, Jenna and Elizabeth; two nieces, Kathy and Beth; and two nephews, Jeffrey and Keith.
Funeral notice: A Liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, August 20, 2016, at 10 a.m. in Notre Dame des Sept Douleurs Church, McKinley Square (Rte. 8) Adams. Burial will follow in Bellevue Cemetery, Adams.
