Robert L. Duval, 83

ADAMS, Mass. — Robert L. Duval, 83, of Orleans, Mass., passed away at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston on September 15, 2016, surrounded by his family.
Bob was born August 3, 1933, in Adams and graduated from Drury High School in North Adams in 1951. He served as a radio operator in the U.S. Army and graduated from UMass Amherst in 1958. He lived in Rochester, N.Y., for 38 years, and during that time, worked as a financial advisor for Merrill Lynch, Chemical Bank, and Dean Witter. He also taught courses in economics and business.
In 2000 he retired and with his wife moved back to Massachusetts and in 2007 moved to Cape Cod. He volunteered every summer for the National Seashore where visitors to the Cape were often entertained by his a capella renditions of sea shanties. He also volunteered at the Chatham Marconi Maritime Center and served on the board of the Eastham Library. He was an avid reader and wrote extensive book reports on every book he read. He was an enthusiastic Patriots fan, but his sports heart belonged to the Boston Red Sox.
Bob is survived by his high-school sweetheart and beloved wife of 58 years, Concetta Angeli; his sons, Christopher and wife Mary Lyons and Thomas and wife Carole Monahan; his daughter Jeanne Duval Lucas and husband Matt Lucas; and five grandchildren.
Funeral notice: A celebration of Bob’s life will take place on Wednesday, September 21, from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Flynn-Dagnoli-Montagna Home for Funerals on 521 West Main Street in North Adams. A short service at the funeral home will start at 10 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 22, followed by burial at Southview Cemetery at 11 a.m.
A reception for family and friends will be held afterwards at the Mezze Bistro in Williamstown. Donations in Bob’s memory can be made to the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, 450 Brookline Avenue, Boston MA 02215.
