Michael S. Kondel, 67

ADAMS, Mass. — Michael S. Kondel, 67, of 214 North Summer St. passed away at his home Monday, November 7, 2016. 

Born in Adams on October 30, 1949, son of the late Stanley M. Kondel and Veronica Witkowski Kondel Durwin, he attended Adams schools and graduated from the Charles H. McCann Vocational Technical High School in North Adams in 1968. His last place of employment was for the U.S. Postal Service as a mail carrier, and where he retired. Prior to that he was a mechanic for the former Dean's Service Station in Adams, and was also the proprietor of the former Summer St. Auto in Adams. 

Michael was a U.S. Army Vietnam veteran serving in Vietnam and was honorably discharged after receiving the Purple Heart and Bronze Star Medal. He was a member of the Disabled American Veterans, enjoyed drag racing at Lebanon Valley, N.Y., hiking and walking with his brother Paul, motorcycle trail riding, and spending time with his grandchildren and family. 

Michael was a communicant of the Parish of St. John Paul II in Adams. 

Besides his mother of Adams, he is survived by his wife, the former Mary L. McLaren, whom he married on June 26, 1976; two sons, Dennis Kondel and his companion Michelle Dargie and Terrence Kondel and his wife Carrie of Adams; two daughters, Cherie Phillips and her husband Russell of Portland, Maine, and Kristie Foley and her husband Michael of North Andover, Mass.; a brother, Paul Kondel and his wife Pamela of Adams; two sisters Patricia Dean, Barbara Ferguson, both of Adams; and eight grandchildren, Elyse and Rylan Phillips, Kale, Kamilia, Nathan, and Nora Kondel, Michael and Matthew Foley; and nieces and nephews.

Funeral notice: The funeral for Michael will take place Saturday, November 12, 2016 at 11 a.m. from the Trottier Pringle Funeral Home, 6 Summer St., Adams, followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at noon in Notre Dame des Sept Douleurs Church in Adams, celebrated by the Rev. Steven G. Montesanti, Pastor. 

Burial will follow in Bellevue Cemetery in Adams, calling hours at the funeral home will be Friday, November 11, 2016, from 4 to 7 p.m. The family requests that memorial donations be made to Mary L. Kondel, 214 North Summer St., Adams, MA 01220.
