Michael J. Monico, 91

WINDSOR, Mass. — Michael J. Monico, 91, a longtime Windsor resident, passed away on January 26, 2017, at Fairview Commons in Great Barrington, where he had resided for the past six months. Prior to that he had resided at Devonshire Estates in Lenox for the past six years.
Born on March 3, 1925 in Nashwauk, Minnesota, he was a son of the late Victor and Vienna Barnardi Monico.
He was educated in Nashwauk schools and was a 1943 graduate of Nashwauk High School. He then went on to earn his electrical engineering degree from the University of Minnesota. He proudly served his country during World War II in the United States Army.
He married his wife, the late Helen Dwyer Monico on September 2, 1950, at the United Methodist Church in Chisholm, Minn. She died on May 22, 2010.
Mr. Monico was employed for 35 years as an electrical engineer at General Electric in the Transformer Division. He retired in 1985. He was a member of the Dalton United Methodist Church, Mount Greylock Ski Club and the Appalachian Mountain Club, where he volunteered to maintain the Appalachian Trail. He was also a member of the GE Quarter Century and Pensioners Clubs.
He enjoyed hiking, skiing, gardening and volunteering his time at the Notchview Reservation in Windsor.
He leaves two daughters, Barbara D. Paulsen of Corning, N.Y., and Laurie A, Monico of Springfield, Ore.; two sons, Peter M. Monico and his wife Geralyn of Brighton, Utah, and Jeffrey A. Monico and his wife Linda of Grimesland, N.C.; two brothers, Lou Monico and his wife Jean of New Port Beach, Calif., and Victor Monico and his wife Elaine of Minneapolis, Minn., two grandchildren, Christina Paulsen and David Paulsen; four great-grandchildren, McKenzie Berger, Sam Paulsen, Henry Paulsen and Jonah Paulsen; as well as several nieces and nephews.
The Monico family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to his wonderful caregivers who were all like family to him: Alice DiCicco, Jason Maley, Elizabeth "Betsy" Halia, Bette Anne Eddy, Theresa Cahalan and Pam Soldato.
Funeral notice: A Memorial Service for Michael J. Monico, who passed away January 26, 2017, will be held Monday, January 30, 2017, at 10:30 a.m. at Dalton United Methodist Church conducted by the Rev. Stephanie Filiault, pastor. Burial will be private.
There are no calling hours. Memorial donations in memory of Mike may be made to the Dalton United Methodist Church in care of the Dery-Foley Funeral Home, 890 Main Street, Dalton, MA 01226, which is handling arrangements.
