Bruce Barnum, 71

HOUSATONIC, Mass. — Bruce Sherwood Barnum, age 71, died on Jan. 14, 2021, at The Landing at Laurel Lake, his
residence for the last five years.

Born on July 3, 1949, he was the son of Bethuel S. and Mildred (Snyder) Barnum.

A lifelong resident of Housatonic, Bruce attended Housatonic Elementary School, Searles Middle School, and Monument Mountain Regional High School. He worked at various supermarket chains since 1974 throughout Great Barrington.

He was a member of The Grange since 1985 and an active lifelong member of Housatonic United Methodist Church and then Alford Community Church when the churches merged.

Never one to withhold his opinion, Bruce always spoke his mind. He was an avid sports fan. The Red Sox, Celtics, Patriots, and Kentucky Basketball were always on his tv when they were winning.

You could find Bruce at every potluck, church supper, or coffee hour. He loved trips to Kentucky and vacations with the family. His favorite pastime was reading the Berkshire Eagle and clipping articles, pictures, and coupons for those he loved.

Bruce was preceded in death by his father, Bethuel S. Barnum and brother, Philip T. Barnum. He is survived by his mother, Mildred Barnum (age 103) Housatonic; nephews Stephen (Denise) Barnum of Nashville, Tenn., and Michael (Reagan) Barnum of Woodburn, K.Y.; sister-in-law, Peggy Barnum, of Bowling Green, K.Y., eleven great-nieces and nephews; and many cousins.

Special appreciation to cousins, Marge Gillett and June Hastedt, who continued providing baked goodies, treats, and family care to Bruce even after his move to Lee.

Also great gratitude to the staff at The Landing at Laurel Lake in Lee, Massachusetts, for providing extra care and attention to Bruce during this very difficult year. He loved the talks, puzzle tips, and afternoon cookies.

Arrangements are in the care of Finnerty and Stevens Funeral Home in Great Barrington. Due to coronavirus restrictions, a private graveside service will be held. A memorial service will be planned for a later date.

In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made to Alford Community Church in his memory. Alford Community Church % Church Treasurer, 26 Townhouse Hill Road, Great Barrington, MA 01230. To send remembrances to his family please go to www.finnertyandstevens.com
