Dorothy Etman

Dorothy Frances (Vanhorn) Etman, 80, of 309 Beaver Street, North Adams, MA died Tuesday evening February 9, 2021 at home. She was born in North Adams, Massachusetts on February 20, 1940, a daughter of the late Howard Ellsworth Vanhorn and Helen Julia (Estes) Vanhorn. She attended schools in Williamstown, MA and graduated from Williamstown High School with the Class of 1958. She then attended Albany Business College, graduating in 1960.

Dorothy (or “Dot” to many) was first employed by Sprague Electric Company as a Secretary. Later, she was employed at Dox Drugs, and Howard Johnson’s, Hepburn’s Doughnuts, and The Williams Inn as a waitress in Williamstown, Mass. Dorothy was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Williamstown. She was a member of Williamstown Grange #366, serving a term as its Master. Dorothy enjoyed knitting, the outdoors, and the music of the Statler Brothers. Her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren brought her the most joy.

Her husband, Louis Albert Etman, predeceased her on November 23, 2020. They were married on October 14, 1961. She leaves a son, Andrew (Barbara) Etman of Gordonville, PA, three daughters, Laurie (John) Hornurg of Huntington Beach, CA, Leah (David) Andrews of New Holland, PA and Helen Romano (Peter) of North Adams, MA. She also leaves twelve grandchildren – Andrew, Seth, Emily, Rebecca, Nicole, Ryan, Sarah, Matthew, Johnnie, Richie, Shayla, and Marcia, ten great grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews, grand nieces and grand nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, a sister, Eleanor E. Rickert, a brother, John W. Vanhorn, and a grandson, Sean.

FUNERAL NOTICE: Per Dorothy’s request there will no formal services. A private family memorial service will be held at a later date. Memorial donations may be made The Friendship Center Food Bank through Flynn and Dagnoli Funeral Home, 74 Marshall Street in North Adams, MA, who is in charge of arrangements. I was just thinking and talking about Lou and Dot just this past weekend. They were just great, down to earth people. I am so sorry to hear that Dot has passed. We had a lot of laughs together at various Sportsmens outings and events. Please accept my deepest condolences. They are both going to be missed by many.
