Osborne Dugan, 93

MONTEREY, Mass. - Osborne (Ozzie) Dugan, age 93 passed away peacefully on May 5, 2021. 

He was born Aug. 8, 1927, in Pawtucket, R.I. to Andrew V. and Grace Dugan.

In 1944, Ozzie enlisted in the Navy and served in WWII. He was honorably discharged in August of 1946 with the rank of Seaman Second Class. Much of his time in the Navy was spent as a PT Boat gunner.

Ozzie enlisted with the US Navy in his senior year of high school but did receive his diploma from Attleboro High School in 1945. He was a graduate of the New England School of Banking.

Ozzie married his devoted wife, Etta Carpenter in April of 1957.

The couple lived in Attleboro, MA before moving to Monterey, MA where they lived for over 50 years. During that time Ozzie served the town of Monterey on the Planning Board and Board of Appeals. 

He also served for many years on the SBRSD School Committee. His summers were spent in Jamestown, R.I. where he loved working on projects with his big brother and spending time with his extended family.

Ozzie refereed high school football for 35 years and was inducted into the National Football Foundation Hall of Fame, Western Mass Chapter in 1997.

Ozzie was an avid sports fan. He lettered in baseball, football and basketball in high school and instilled this love of sports into his children and grandchildren. He was a true New England sports fan. The Red Sox, Celtics and Patriots were his teams. He spent hours watching, cheering and agonizing over every game. Ozzie's greatest joy came from watching his children and grandchildren participate in various youth and high school sports. You were sure to hear him cheering and "coaching" from the sidelines. He always knew the score and kept various stats during the game.

Ozzie is survived by his son, Robert Dugan and his wife Teresa of Miami, Fla. and his daughter Lynn Barry and her husband William of Great Barrington. He was the devoted grandfather to Jodi
Barry, Tyler Barry and Jared Dugan.

Ozzie was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Etta in November of 2020, his brother, Andrew V. Dugan, Jr. and sister, Natalie Cooper.

A graveside service will be held to remember and honor both Ozzie and Etta on Sunday, May 23 at 11:00 a.m. at Corashire Cemetery in Monterey.
