Rose L. Tannenbaum, 68

STOCKBRIDGE, Mass. — It is with great sorrow we announce the death of Rose L. Tannenbaum, Sunday evening July 25.

Hers was a world of color, art, music, dancing, and adventure.

How wide was this world! Poker evenings, book club, Berkshire Sings, Guild of Berkshire Artists, Balkan dancing, garland dancing, globetrotting with Zlatne Uste, painting, the Dance Flurry, bluegrass camp, banjo tuba duets! busking, the graphic design work that she loved, and of course, her family whom she loved most of all.

And her friends. A lifetime of them.

How did she find the time to love all that? (Easy, she stayed up late and got up early.)

The joys and accomplishments of her life, and the grace by which she moved through the world are some of the lasting memories she has given us.

Rose was born in Bronxville, NY on March 18, 1953. She moved to the Berkshires in the late 1970s, finding a home at Serenity Leather, in West Stockbridge, a shop featuring hand-made leather goods and musical instruments. Isaac Stern once came in to buy some strings "for his fiddle".

Later she started her own leather company, simply called "Rose", some goods of which you can still see among her clients strolling through the Berkshire Hills.

She is survived by her husband Emerson Hawley, who adored her, her son Amory and daughter Molly Drennan. She was pre-deceased by her first husband Robert E. "Eric" Drennan. Her heart was so large and grateful for the family she shared.

She is also survived by her loving brothers Aron (Karen), Matthew (Carol), and Ted (Danise), nieces Lara, Robin, Shawnee, Sophie and nephew Jason Tannenbaum, grand nephews, Ezra, Dashiell, Jason and Fenno, grandniece Siena, cousin David (Norah) and her great good friend Vivien.

SERVICE - Graveside service will be held Wednesday, July 28 at 1 pm at Elmwood Cemetery in Great Barrington. Shiva will be observed at Emerson and Rose’s home, 18 Lukeman Lane, Stockbridge Weds and Thurs 4 – 8 pm.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to The Guthrie Center, which she loved so much, c/o Finnerty & Stevens Funeral Home, 426 Main St., Great Barrington, MA 01230. To send remembrances go to www.finnertyandstevens.com
