Arthur Houghtaling Sr.,75

Arthur Volney Houghtaling Sr., 75, of Monroe Bridge died on Sunday August 29, 2021 at Berkshire Medical Center-North. Arthur was born in Bennington, VT. on January 7, 1946 a son of the late Helen (Raycroft) Houghtaling and grandson of Volney & Esther Raycroft who raised him. He attended Hoosac Tunnel school and graduated with the class of 1964 at Drury High School. Arthur was a decorated veteran of the United States Navy serving in the Vietnam War. Arthur was employed at Deerfield Specialty Paper Co. for many years. He also worked for Paul Cutler Sales and Services and Excelsior Printing. He retired from Comali Electric Company but continued working as a self- employed contractor. Arthur was a volunteer for Monroe Fire Department, and was on the Monroe Water & Sewer committee. He was an avid reader, and enjoyed spending time with family, working on cars, and putting around in the Garage. Survivors include his wife, Alice (Hall) Houghtaling whom he married July 17, 1967, two daughters, Alicia Benoit (Ken) of Clarksburg, MA, Arica Ouimet (Michael), Adams, MA; two sons, John Hall (Pamela) of Hudson, NH, Arthur Houghtaling Jr, North Adams, MA. He also leaves 7 grandchildren, Danica Hall – O’Brien, Garson Hall, Tyler Benoit, Kelsey Ouimet, Ryan Ouimet, Megan Benoit and Maddison Houghtaling; 2 great-grandchildren, Connor O’Brien and Isla O’Brien and sisters, Louise Sherman (William) of North Adams, and Jane Houghtaling of North Adams as well as nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a sister, Joan Houghtaling and two brothers, Thomas Houghtaling and David Van Ornum.
FUNERAL NOTICE: A private service to celebrate the life of Arthur Houghtaling will be held on Thursday, September 2, 2021 at the Flynn & Dagnoli Funeral Homes- WEST CHAPEL 521 West Main St. North Adams, MA 01247. Public Calling hours will be from 4-7 PM on Thursday. Flowers maybe sent or memorial donations may be made to the Monroe Volunteer Fire Department through the funeral home.
