Janice Farinon, 90

STAMFORD, Vt. —  Janice Farinon, 90, of Stamford, VT. passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 30, 2023 in North Adams, MA at the home of her longtime friend, Bonnie Perry, following a brief battle with cancer. She was born on October 1, 1932 in Troy, N.Y, the daughter of the late Paul K. and Jean (Bowman) Robinson. Janice married Rinaldo Farinon and together they lived in their home in Stamford, VT until his passing in-2005.

Following her graduation from Drury High School in 1951 Janice was employed at the former Strong Hewitt Woolen Mill in Clarksburg, MA and later at the General Electric Co. in Schenectady, NY. She then worked as office manager for the Potvin Lumber Company in Stamford, VT. where she was instrumental in coordinating the work of rebuilding the Potvin mill following a devastating fire at that facility. In her later years she was employed and greatly enjoyed her many years as office manager at Atlantis Fabrication in Stephentown, N.Y. until her retirement.

Janice loved the Town of Stamford, VT. and the people who lived there. Her dedication to the town was shown in many ways. She was proud of the fact that she was the first woman in Stamford’s history to serve on the Selectboard, a position which she held for 9 years. She also served as a school director for the Stamford Elementary School for 14 years. Due to ill health Jan had recently resigned as a member of the Stamford Cemetery Commission, a position she had also held for many years.

But it was the Stamford Volunteer Fire Company that captured Janice’s heart to the core. In 1988 she began her 45 year commitment to the Company as a trustee, and even earlier as Stamford Fire Company Auxiliary member. She treated all of its members like family and faithfully supported all of their efforts oftentimes with her homemade shortbread and other goodies.

Janice and her husband, Rinaldo, were well known as accomplished breeders of otterhounds and also longtime members of the Bennington County Kennel Club.

Janice leaves one brother, Thomas Robinson and a grandniece, Ella Robinson both of Springfield, VT. She was pre-deceased by her sister-in-law Jane Robinson and her nephew, Tom Robinson

There will be a graveside service at Millard Cemetery in Stamford, VT. at a later date.

Donations in memory of Janice Farinon may be made to the Stamford Volunteer Fire Dept. at 142 Stebbins Lane, Stamford, VT 05352.

Thomas, so sorry for your loss of your sister. I remember you both when we were kids together in Clarksburg. Sounds like Janice had a very full life.
