Paul Edward Yarter, 82

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. —  Paul Edward Yarter, 82, of Williamstown, died on Tuesday, June 16, 2026, at Williamstown Commons. Paul was born in North Adams on November 14, 1943, a son of the late Edward Yarter and Gertrude (Schwarzer) Yarter.

Paul attended schools in Williamstown and graduated from Williamstown High School. Paul was a longtime member of the Massachusetts National Guard and served as a constable for the town of Williamstown. He was also the supervisor of the Williamstown Cemetery and Recreational Department, and worked part-time at the former Grand Union Supermarket in Williamstown. Paul was last employed at Williams College as a dispatcher for the security department.

An avid outdoorsman, Paul enjoyed photography, scuba diving, and deep-sea as well as local fishing. He was a member of the Williams Masonic Lodge A.F. & A.M. of Williamstown and Gale Hose Fire Department of Williamstown. He was also a member of the Stamford Golf Course and thoroughly enjoyed spending time watching his grandchildren’s sporting events.

Paul was predeceased by his beloved wife, Cheryl Jeannette (Lafave) Yarter, whom he married at St. Raphael’s Church on July 10, 1965. She passed away on January 11, 2017.

He leaves his daughter, Nicole M. Dobbert (Robert) of Williamstown; his son, Eric Yarter (Jennifer) of Pittsfield; and his grandchildren, Catherine Benoit, Ryan Benoit, Zachary Yarter, Alexis Yarter, Alexander Yarter, and Gabriel Yarter. He also leaves his sister-in-law, Lois Rancatti (Donald) of Hancock, MA. He was predeceased by his granddaughter, Patricia Yarter, and his brother-in-law, Gregory Louis Lafave.

FUNERAL NOTICE: At Paul’s request, there will be no funeral services. Burial will take place at a later date in Eastlawn Cemetery.
