Bertha M. Starbird, 90

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Bertha M. Jacobs Hamm Starbird, 90, of Dade City, Fla., formerly of Pittsfield and Stephentown, N.Y., was called to be with her angels on Saturday, July 11, 2026, with her family by her side.

Known as "Primp," "Oibe" and "Bert," her selfless, caring personality, smile, strength, independence and forthright comments will remain with us for eternity.

Bertha waitressed at several restaurants in Pittsfield and retired from the transformer department at General Electric. Playing bingo and cards were her passion, but above all, was the love she had for her friends and family, which was reciprocated as well.

She leaves her life partner, Bob Dumas of Dade City; her daughters, Bev Decker of Troy, N.Y., Judy Miller of Pittsfield and Tina (Rick) Wood of Dade City; sister-in-law, Maren Jacobs of Lenox, MA; a son-in-law, Gary Geerholt of Cherry Plain, NY; a brother, Gene Jacobs of Stephentown; a sister, Helen Baldwin of Stephentown; 12 grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews, and her beloved fur babies Dusty and Lucky.

She was predeceased by her parents, James Jacobs and Amelia Wert Jacobs; her former husband, George Hamm; her sisters Marie Shackett and Florence Packard; her brother Joseph Jacobs; her sons David King and Ralph Hamm; her daughter Brenda Geerholt; niece Lisa Jacobs and granddaughter Tonyiel Begnoche.  

FUNERAL NOTICE: Celebration of life and services will take place at a later date to be determined by the family. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to The Humane Society or United Cerebral Palsy of Western Mass.
