WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — Lawrence Gordon Coulter of Orleans passed away Aug. 31, 2026, at the age of 95.

Lawrence was born on Feb. 17, 1931, in Cambridge, NY, the second child of James and Mary (Curtis) Coulter. He was raised in Bennington, VT, and attended Bennington schools.

After graduating from Springfield College in 1953, he taught math briefly in Highland Falls, NY. He later attended the University of Pennsylvania's School of Dentistry, where he received his Doctor of Dental Surgery in 1961. After a brief dentistry practice in Lexington, he moved with his family to Williamstown, where he raised his family and practiced dentistry for nearly 30 years. He later retired to Wellfleet, where he briefly reopened a dentistry practice. In 2016, Lawrence moved to Pownal, VT to live with his sister Carolyn on the Peckham family farm. In 2021, he moved back to Cape Cod, where he resided until his passing.

Lawrence enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, fishing, boating, and enjoying other outside activities. After his final retirement, he enjoyed developing his jewelry-making skills. In all of his endeavors, Lawrence lived his life with enthusiasm, optimism, and resilience.

Survivors include his three children Susan Bushart and husband Paul of Granite Shoals, TX; Amy Lake and husband Charles of Orleans and Seth Coulter of Sand Lake, NY. He is also survived by six grandchildren: Dana Bushart and wife Lindsey, Tobin, Laine and Graeme Bushart and his fiancé Julia Bratic, Nathan Lake and his partner Sophie Cassel, and Rachel (Lake) Martin and her husband Nick, and by great-grandchildren Daphne and Dorothy Bushart, and several nieces and their extended families. Lawrence was predeceased by his Brother Ronald Coulter, and sister Carolyn (Coulter) Peckham.

Graveside services will take place in the family plot in Park Lawn Cemetery in Bennington, VT at a later date.
