Donald G. Marcotte, 67

Donald G. Marcotte, 67, of Hinsdale, passed away at home on October 2, 2026, following a long battle with leukemia and complications from his treatment.
Don was born in Adams, Massachusetts, on March 27, 1959, the son of the late Donald E. Marcotte and Lorraine Gagnon Marcotte. He was educated in local schools and went on to earn his bachelor's degree in electrical engineering from Northeastern University.
Don married Lisa Frieswyk on November 3, 1984.
A plumber by trade, Don worked for Adams Plumbing & Heating for more than 30 years before retiring in 2025. He was a perfectionist who took tremendous pride in his craft. He used to say that the boiler room was the one place his work could truly be appreciated—it was his canvas. Every pipe had to be level, and every detail was considered. His sons, Zachary and Trevor, learned this firsthand, spending nights and weekends plumbing alongside their father as they grew up. More than just learning the trade, they learned from him the value of working hard and doing a job the right way.
That work ethic extended well beyond his career. Don was always willing to lend a hand, whether taking on a plumbing job for a friend after work, helping someone solve a problem, or building his family's home with the help of friends in 2000. Helping others was simply part of who he was and one of the ways he most naturally showed that he cared.
Above all, Don loved his family and took great pride in his sons, Zachary and Trevor. When they were young, he could often be found on the sidelines of their youth football games, eventually becoming one of their coaches. He loved watching his boys compete, whether it was football, lacrosse or wakeboarding, and he was always there to support them.
For nearly 30 years, many of the family's best memories were made at their cottage on Ashmere Lake. Summers were spent swimming, boating, waterskiing and wakeboarding, with Don teaching his sons how to waterski. He was also a lifelong snowmobile enthusiast and snowcross fan, a passion that began when he was young and continued through years of attending races with his close friend Bruce.
Don was outgoing, strong-willed and notoriously stubborn. That stubbornness served him well throughout his life, but perhaps never more than during his illness. Diagnosed with leukemia 13 years ago, Don repeatedly defied the odds. He underwent extensive treatment and received a bone marrow transplant from his sister, Cathy. Though years of complications followed, his determination carried him through far more than anyone could have expected.
In his final year, Don found special companionship in his Rottweiler, Toby. Dogs had always been part of the Marcotte family, and Toby came into Don's life at a time when his company was especially meaningful.
Don is survived by his wife, Lisa Marcotte; his sons, Zachary Marcotte and his girlfriend, Emily Gamble, of Lanesborough, and Trevor Marcotte and his wife, Christina Marcotte, of Colebrook, Connecticut; his sister, Cathy Marcotte of Adams; his beloved granddaughter, Mariella “Ellie”; and his faithful companion, Toby. He was predeceased by his parents, Donald and Lorraine Marcotte.
Services and burial at Bellevue Cemetery in Adams will be private. The family will hold a public celebration of Don's life in the coming weeks, with details to be announced.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Don's memory to Dana Farber, FBO Dr. Cutler’s transplant department, whose exceptional care and support meant so much to Don and his family, in care of Dery Funeral Home, 54 Bradford Street, Pittsfield, MA 01201.
