Lawrence J. Frederick, 82

CHESHIRE, Mass. —

Mr. Lawrence J. “Bapa” Frederick, 82, of Cheshire, died unexpectedly on Thursday, October 29, 2026. He was born in Adams on October 14, 1944, son of the late George and Edith (Shaw) Frederick. He attended Adams schools, graduating from the former Adams Memorial High School with the Class of 1962. He then took courses at Wentworth Institute in Boston.

Larry was an operating engineer for several area construction companies from 1963 until retiring in 2006. He was a member of the former St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, Adams, and a member of the former Adams Lodge of Elks. He had coached PAL Basketball for many years and had chaired the Elks Hoop Shoot for several years. He enjoyed playing cards on Monday nights with his “Cronies” in Cheshire, and was an avid collector of antiques, of which he had many. It was said that he should have been featured on the American Pickers television show! Larry’s kindness and generosity touched everyone he met. He was always there when you needed him and found happiness making life easier for those around him. He especially loved his grandchildren, who called him “Bapa”. He never missed any of their sporting events or activities and spent as much time as possible with them. He was a wonderful husband, father and grandfather.

He is survived by his wife, the former Sandra Webster, whom he married on June 27, 1970; one daughter, Tracie Frederick Girard and her fiancée, Peter Belmonte, of North Adams; one son, Ryan Frederick and his wife, Sarah, of Cheshire; his four grandchildren, Justin Girard, Allison Girard, Kensley Frederick and Addalyn Frederick; sisters Joanne McCarthy and her husband, Michael, of Cheshire, and Jennifer Juras and her partner Jim of Pittsfield; and his four grand fur babies – Hercules, Dunkin, Gizmo and his best friend Duke; as well as several nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are invited to celebrate Larry’s life at the Daily Grind, 37 Park St. Adams, on Wednesday, November 25th from 9:00 AM until 12 Noon for “Breakfast with Bapa”. Burial will be held privately. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to No Paws Left Behind, 69 Hodges Cross Rd. North Adams, MA 01247. The PACIOREK FUNERAL HOME, Adams, is in charge of arrangements. To leave a message of condolence, or for directions, please go online to www.paciorekfuneral.com
