Karl G. Kromer

Karl Gottlob Kromer, 89, of 17 Livingston Ave. died Monday at Springside of Pittsfield, where he had been admitted Sept. 3, 2000. Born in Honau, Germany, on March 18, 1911, son of Jakob and Luise Raiser Kromer, he attended schools in Germany and graduated from high school there. He came to the United States in 1930 and settled in New York City. He was a World War II Army veteran and attained the rank of corporal. He served with the 765th Signal Aircraft Warning Company. Mr. Kromer was employed as a machinist for 42 years for the Standards Knapp division of Emhart Corp. in New York City and later in Portland, Conn. While working there, he resided in Middletown, Conn., and retired in 1973. He moved to Pittsfield in 1985. He was a communicant of Sacred Heart Church. He enjoyed the stock market and reading. His wife, the former Marie Stefandl, whom he married Nov. 23, 1939, at St. Pancras' Church in Glendale, N.Y., died Nov. 2, 1994. He leaves several nieces and nephews, including Gertrude Randisi of Pittsfield. Survivors include two sisters-in-law, Josephine Ahrens of Pittsfield and Helen Meisl of Sandisfield; a niece, Gertrude Randisi of Pittsfield, and several nieces and nephews in Germany and other parts of the United States. Funeral services will take place Thursday, Feb. 15, at 9:15 a.m. from FLYNN & DAGNOLI-BENCIVENGA FUNERAL HOME, 5 Elm St., followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at Sacred Heart Church. Burial will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Pittsfield. Calling hours at the FLYNN & DAGNOLI-BENCIVENGA FUNERAL HOME will be Wednesday, Feb. 14, from 4 to 6 p.m.
