Raymond G. Paul

Raymond George Paul, 93, of 400 Britton St., Chicopee, a former Adams resident, died Saturday evening at Geriatric Authority in Holyoke. Born in Chicopee on Aug. 8, 1908, son of George E. and Grace Derome Paul, he attended schools there. He moved to Adams in 1972. He was a second lieutenant in the Massachusetts National Guard. Mr. Paul was employed by the Boys' Clubs of America. He was an original organizer of the Boys' Club in the Fairview section of Chicopee in 1942 and was named its executive director in 1946. He was named area unit director in 1957 and, in April of that year, was appointed executive director of the Boys' Club in Hudson, N.Y., where he remained until his retirement in 1972. While in Adams, he worked as a security guard for the Pinkerton Agency for 18 years and was an active communicant of the Parish of Notre Dame-St. Thomas. He retired from Pinkerton and moved to Chicopee several years ago. While in Chicopee, he was a communicant of St. Anne's Church and a charter member of the Knights of Columbus Council 4044 in the Fairview section. He received many awards from the Boys' Clubs of America, including its top honors, the BCA Bronze Keystone and the BCA Dis- tinguished Achievement Award. He and his wife, the former Marjorie A.A. Couture, celebrated their 68th wedding anniversary May 30. She was a former organist at Notre Dame Church in Adams. Besides his wife, he leaves six daughters, Gloria A. Roy of Providence, R.I., Marie L. Duff of Ridgecrest, Calif., Kathryne A. Paul of Albany, Elinor M. Ranck of Chicopee, Marjorie A. Paul of Hudson, N.H., and Grayce M. Dierkes of Livingston, N.Y.; a son, Raymond E. Paul of Hudson, N.Y.; two brothers, Roland N. Paul and Leonard W. Paul, both of Chicopee; 19 grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandchild. A daughter, Joan E. McWhirt, died Oct. 15, 1997. Mr. Paul was predeceased by two brothers, George and Gerald Paul. The funeral will be Saturday, July 20, at 11 from AUGE-PACIOREK-SIMMONS FUNERAL HOME, 13 Hoosac St., Adams, followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at noon in Notre Dame Church celebrated by the Rev. Daniel J. Boyle, pastor. Burial will follow in Bellevue Cemetery, Adams. Calling hours will be Saturday from 10 to 11 at the funeral home. Memorial donations may be made to any children's charity through the funeral home.
