Paul S. Campbell

Paul S. Campbell, 86, of 22 County Road died Monday at Berkshire Medical Center in Pittsfield. He moved to Hinsdale in 1991. Born in Cambridge on Aug. 18, 1915, son of Walter M. and Esther O'Neil Campbell, he attended schools in Cambridge and the Bryant & Stratton Business School in Boston. An Army veteran of World War II, he served in the Southwest Pacific theater of operations. He was employed by Libby, McNeil & Libby in various branch offices in the Boston, Hartford, Conn., and New Jersey for 23 years. He then worked for Viking Penguin Publishers in the Storage & Distribution Warehouse in East Rutherford, N.J. He was a resident of Pompton Lakes, N.J., for 21 years. Mr. Campbell was a communicant of St. Patrick's Church and a parish lector. A member of the American Legion, he served as a Medicare counselor, both here and in New Jersey. He was a former tutor in English as a second language in Pittsfield and in New Jersey. He also read for the Talking Chronicle in Pittsfield. He volunteered at the Chilton Memorial Hospital in New Jersey and at BMC in Pittsfield. His wife, the former Grace M. Conroy, whom he married June 14, 1947, in St. Mary's Church in Pittsfield, died Jan. 26, 2001. He leaves a son, John P. Campbell of Garland, Texas; a brother, Walter M. Campbell of Feasterville, Pa., and four grandchildren,Jennifer, Matthew, Julia and Paige Gabrielle, his granddaughter and twin sister of Julia, died April 19, 1996. Funeral services will be Friday at 2 p.m. at DEVANNY-CONDRON FUNERAL HOME with the Rev. R.J. Levay, pastor of St. Patrick's Church, officiating. Burial will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery. The family will receive friends beginning at 1 p.m on Friday. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Patrick's Church or the Hinsdale Food Bank in care of the funeral home.
