Norman V. Blair

Norman Victor Blair, 67, of 46 1/2 Hall St. died Thursday at home after a brief illness. Born in North Adams on Oct. 20, 1934, son of the late James H. and Clara McPhail Blair, he attended North Adams schools. He served in the Army. Mr. Blair was employed by the former Sprague Electric Co. and, most recently, as a painter for David Wood Painting Co. until ill health forced his retirement seven years ago. He was a 58-year member of First Baptist Church. In his youth, he was a speed skater and had skated in Madison Square Garden in New York. He was an accomplished piano player and also sang on live radio. He enjoyed hunting and fishing. He and his wife, the former Celia A. Millett, were married Nov. 2, 1966. Three sons, Norman J. Blair of Deerfield, and James F. Blair and Kenneth C. Pearson Jr., both of North Adams; five daughters, Tammy Jaskaluski and Debra Harding, both of Jupiter, Fla., Melissa Blair and Jeanne Carey, both of North Adams, and Theresa Rooney of Hot Springs, Ark.; 20 grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren. Another daughter, Elizabeth J. Wheeler, died in 1998. The funeral will be conducted Monday at 1 at AUGE-SAN SOUCIE-SIMMONS FUNERAL HOME by the Rev. Sandra Hehe, pastor of First United Methodist Church in Williamstown. Burial will follow in Southview Cemetery, North Adams. Calling hours at the funeral home will be tomorrow from 5 to 8. Flowers may be sent or memorial donations may be made to the VNA & Hospice of Northern Berkshire Inc. through the funeral home, 46 North Church St., North Adams, MA 01247.
