Robert P. Fyler

Robert P. Fyler, 76, of Brea, Calif., a former Pittsfield resident, died July 12 at home of lung cancer. Born in New Haven, Conn., on July 21, 1925, son of Lane K. and Elsie Parmalee Fyler, he moved with his family to Pittsfield at age 3 and was a graduate of Pittsfield High School and Williston Academy. He also graduated from the former Berkshire Business College with a degree in accounting. A decorated Army veteran of World War II, he served two years, including one with the 113th Cavalry Reconnaissance Squadron in Europe. He participated in the invasion of Normandy and campaigns in Holland, France and Germany. He received the Purple Heart after being wounded at Aachen. While in Pittsfield he was employed as an accountant at Associated Transport. He moved in 1954 to California, where worked in the transportation industry. At the time of his death, he was a transportation consultant. He was an amateur actor and performed in a number of shows in California. He also enjoyed traveling and playing golf. He and his wife, the former Patricia Ann McConkey of Pittsfield, were married Oct. 4, 1949, in St. Teresa's Rectory by the Rev. Francis E. Hilbert. Besides his wife, he leaves five daughters, Deborah Werbil of Fullerton, Calif., Rebecca Kelley of Temecula, Calif., Pamela Carnes of Highland, Calif., Nancy Lockwood of Rancho Santa Margarita, Calif., and Cynthia Pluta of Oceanside, Calif.; 13 grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.
