Sonya Sokolove

Sonya Sokolove, 92, of 175 West 12th St., New York City, formerly of North Adams, died Thursday afternoon at St. Vincent's Medical Center in Manhattan, N.Y. She moved to New York in 1959 to be with her family. Born in Russia on Jan. 25, 1910, daughter of David and Frances Ciok Gabriner, she emigrated to the United States with her family at age 11. She was a graduate of Drury High School. She was an avid bridge player and enjoyed doing crossword puzzles. Her husband, Abraham Sokolove, whom she married in 1935, died in May 1958. She leaves a daughter, Jane Alpern of East Rockaway, N.Y.; a son, Richard G. Sokolove of New York City; two brothers, Matthew Gabriner of Brooklyn and Abraham Gabriner of Israel, and five grandchildren. Another son, Larry Joel Sokolove, died Jan. 7, 1993. Graveside services for Sonya Gabriner Sokolove will take place Sunday at 11 at Beth Israel Cemetery, Clarksburg, with Rabbi Howard Cohen of Congregation Beth El of Bennington, Vt., officiating.
