Exilda Bianco

Exilda "DeeDee" Bianco, 96, formerly of 51 Chestnut St., died Sunday at Sweet Brook Health Care Center, where she had resided since 1997. Born in North Adams on Sept. 6, 1905, daughter of John Gabriel and Exilda Rose Saulnier Perreault, she was educated in local schools. She graduated from the former North Adams Hospital School of Nursing in 1931 and completed her affiliation with Bellevue Hospital in New York City. A registered nurse, Mrs. Bianco was assistant supervisor in the operating room at the former North Adams Hospital, now North Adams Regional Hospital, until 1936. During World War II, she did relief work for nurses at the former James Hunter Machine Co., Sprague Electric Co. and Arnold Print Works. She retired in 1945. She was a longtime communicant of St. Anthony's Church and a member of its Rosary Society, a member and past president of the North Adams Emblem Club and a former member of the North Adams Country Club. She volunteered for the American Red Cross as a donor and as a nurse at the Red Cross Blood Bank. Her husband, Philip Joseph Bianco, whom she married June 11, 1934, died May 2, 1989. She leaves several nieces and nephews, including Richard William Perreault, whom she raised since early childhood. She was predeceased by four sisters and a brother, Florence Mulcahy, Bernadette Lanois, Grayce Elizabeth Perreault, Irene Matilda Perreault and Roger Perreault. Services will be tomorrow, Aug. 14, at 9:30 at FLYNN & DAGNOLI-MONTAGNA HOME FOR FUNERALS, West Chapels, followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10:30 at Notre Dame Church, North Adams. Burial will be in Southview Cemetery. Calling hours will be today, Aug. 13, from 4 to 6 and Wednesday from 9 until the time of the funeral. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Anthony's Church or the VNA through the funeral home, 521 West Main St., North Adams, MA 01247.
