Emil W. Schaffrick

Emil W. Schaffrick, 88, of 9010 Ruff Road, Youngstown, Fl., formerly of Old Windsor Road, died June 29 at home. Born in Seymour, Conn., on Jan. 10, 1914, son of Louis and Emma Swentor Schaffrick, he attended schools there and was a 1932 graduate of Ansonia (Conn.) High School. He had resided in Youngstown since in 1988. Mr. Schaffrick was a volunteer member of the U.S. Civilian Conservation Corps and served in the New England states. He relocated to the Berkshires and established farms in Great Barrington and Cheshire. In the 1960s, he left his farming career and became employed by GE in the power transformer division. He retired in 1979. He was a member of the Union Chapel Church of Berkshire. His wife, the former Doris Evelyn Bragdon, whom he married May 27, 1937, died April 5, 1988. He leaves four sons, Charles Bragdon Schaffrick of Shelburne Falls, R. Emil Schaffrick and Leroy Schaffrick, both of Cheshire, and Richard Schaffrick of Adams; a daughter, Lorraine Bell of Youngstown; 19 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren, and four great-great-grandchildren. FUNERAL NOTICE -- A graveside service for Emil Schaffrick will be observed Saturday, Aug. 24, at 11 a.m. in Bellevue Cemetery, Section R in Adams. The family suggests memorials in lieu of flowers to the Union Chapel Church, 191 Old State Road, Berkshire, MA 01237. The MCBRIDE FUNERAL HOME, Adams, is in charge of arrangements. The Rev. William Furey will officiate at the committal.
