William M. Hussey, 88
NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — William Morton Hussey, 88, of 483 Walnut St., died Thursday, Aug. 22, 2002, at his home following two months of failing health.
Born in Adams on March 4, 1914, a son of Michael J. and Hattie A. Rarick Hussey, he was educated in North Adams schools, including Drury High School.
An Army veteran of World War II, he enlisted on June 18, 1942, and served as a Military Police staff sergeant with Company A, 390th Military Police Battalion, in the European theater. He was awarded the Good Conduct, Victory, American Theater Campaign and the European, African, Middle Eastern Campaign medals for his service. He was honorably discharged on March 12,1946.
Mr. Hussey was employed for 32 years with the former Sprague Electric Co. until his retirement in 1979. He had worked as a manager in retail food sales before the war.
Music was his avocation and he was an instructor at the former Ron Richardello's Music Studio. An accomplished guitarist, he played with Al Sartori and the Stardusters Orchestra in his younger years. He also played in several big-name bands and, in later years, with the Aladdin Quartet, which provided entertainment for local residents and charitable events.
Mr. Hussey was a former communicant of St. Francis of Assisi Church and a member of the Sprague Electric Quarter Century and Retirees clubs.
He and his wife, the former Florence Edith Walden, were married on Nov. 21,1937.
Besides his wife of 64 years, he leaves a daughter, Donna J. Hussey of Nashua, N.H.; two granddaughters, Jody J. Rotolo of Plymouth, N.H., and Tiffany L. Rotolo of Mont Vernon, N.H.; a sister-in-law Geraldine Walden Leonesio and her husband, John, of Williamstown, and nieces, nephews grandnieces and grandnephews.
FUNERAL NOTICE — A private Service of Remembrance for Mr. Hussey will take place Saturday, Aug. 24, at 2 p.m. at Flynn & Dagnoli-Montagna Home for Funerals, Central Chapels, 74 Marshall St., North Adams Mass. Burial wi11 take place at a Later date.
A calling hour will be held Saturday from 1 until the time of the funeral. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations are suggested for the Vincent James Rotolo Scholarship Fund through the funeral home.
