Walter E. Brown

Walter E. Brown, 91, of Robert Street died Sunday at Providence Care Center in Lenox. Born in Halifax on Dec. 24, 1910, son of William and Audrey Ferris Brown, he was a graduate of Whitman High School in Whitman and a 1932 graduate of Wentworth Institute in Boston. He moved to Lee in 1941. He was employed by GE in Pittsfield as an electronic test engineer, retiring in 1974. He had worked for a short time as a railroad express man and radio repairman in Hanson before moving to Lee. Mr. Brown was a member of First Congregational Church in Lee, a Red Cross volunteer and a former Scout master of Troop 45 for five years. He was a ham radio operator for many years and enjoyed woodworking. His wife, the former Lois S. Chandler, whom he married Jan. 15, 1934, died March 11, 2000. He leaves two sons, Dr. Lee H. Brown of Phoenix and Marshall E. Brown of Stuart, Fla.; two daughters, Carol L. Cole of Los Angeles and Linda N. Whitney of Worcester; 17 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, and a great-great-grandchild. FUNERAL NOTICE -- A memorial service for Walter E. Brown will be held Saturday, Sept. 14, at 2 p.m. at First Congregational Church in Lee. Friends wishing may make donations to First Congregational Church or HospiceCare in the Berkshires in c/o the KELLY FUNERAL HOME in Lee, which is in charge of arrangements.
