Robert Joseph O'Neil Sr.

Robert Joseph O'Neil Sr., 76, of 51 Tyler St. died yesterday at North Adams Regional Hospital. Born in North Adams on April 23, 1926, son of Henry B. and Rose E. Vaughn O'Neil, he attended the former St. Joseph's High School. Mr. O'Neil was employed by the former Gale Shoe Co. He later worked for various construction companies in Berkshire County, including Fuller Construction Co. He assisted in the construction of several buildings in Berkshire County, including the Big Y supermarket and McCann High School, and the Sterling & Francine Clark Art Institute in Williamstown He retired in 1964 because of a disability. He was a communicant of St. Francis' Church. His wife, the former Flora E. "Punkey" Haskell, whom he married Oct. 6, 1950, in St. Francis' Church, died May 5, 1993. He leaves four daughters, Selma Gliwski of Greenfield, Tondra Lemieux of Clarksburg, and Susan Perras and Janet O'Neil, both of North Adams; two sons, Robert J. O'Neil Jr. and Bruce O'Neil, both of North Adams; a brother, Bernard O'Neil of North Adams; a sister, Eileen Dargie of North Adams; 13 grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren. FUNERAL NOTICE -- The funeral for Robert Joseph O'Neil Sr. will be Friday at 12:15 from FLYNN & DAGNOLI-MONTAGNA HOME FOR FUNERALS, West Chapels, 521 West Main St., North Adams, followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 1 at St. Francis of Assisi Church, North Adams. Burial will follow in Southview Cemetery, North Adams. Calling hours at the funeral home will be tomorrow from 5 to 8. Memorial donations are suggested for the American Cancer Society through the funeral home. Survivors include sons-in-law James Gliwski, Robert Lemieux and Richard Perras; daughters-in-law Laura Lee O'Neil and Sue O'Neil, and grandchildren Robert, Richard and Ryan O'Neil, Rebecca and Jimmy Lemieux, Jessica, Richard, Craig and Michael Perras, Vanessa O'Neil, Kayla Perras, and Joshua and Kari O'Neil; and great-grandchildren Bethany O'Neil, Tylor Mandeville and Brooke O'Neil. He was predeceased by three brothers and a sister, Henry, Howard and James O'Neil, and Helen Gentes.
