Wladyslaw Drag

Wladyslaw Drag, 75, of 20 Meadow St., Hartford, Conn., a former resident of Housatonic, died Monday at Hartford Hospital. Born in Krakow, Poland, on Nov. 16, 1926, son of Josef and Maria Drag, he was educated there. He emigrated to the United States in 1951 and lived in Housatonic. He graduated from Hartford High School and attended the University of Connecticut, where he studied physics and chemistry. During World War II, he was a member of the Polish Army in Germany assigned to U.S troops and was a survivor of a German labor camp. While in Housatonic, he was employed by the former David Hat Co. and Monument Mills. He moved to Hartford in 1954 and worked for Heublein Inc. for 38 years, retiring in 1989 as a lab technician. Mr. Drag was a communicant of St. Cyril and Methodius Church in Hartford. He was a free-lance wedding photographer, a member of AARP and enjoyed gardening and his grandchildren's sports. His wife, the former Anna Waluszko, whom he married Nov. 27, 1954, in All Saints' Church in Housatonic, died Jan. 4, 1995. He leaves two sons, Wladyslaw Drag of South Meriden, Conn., and Robert Drag of South Windsor, Conn.; three daughters, Elizabeth Potkaj of East Hartford, Conn., Kristina Brown of Marshfield and Evelyn Emerson of East Vasselboro, Maine; a brother, Mieczyslaw Drag of Libiaz, Poland, and two stepsisters, Maria Jurczak of Kasina Wielka, Poland, and Zosia Kolodziej of Mszana Dolna, Poland, and 13 grandchildren. FUNERAL NOTICE -- Services for Wladyslaw Drag, who died Monday, Sept. 23, 2002, will be Friday, Sept. 27, at 9 at BIRCHES-ROY FUNERAL HOME, 33 South St., Great Barrington. A Liturgy of Christian Burial will follow at 10 in All Saints' Church in Housatonic, with the Rev. Anthony Jutt, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in St. Bridget's Cemetery. Family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday, Sept. 26, from 4 to 7. Mr. Drag leaves his daughters-in-law, Karmen and Maria; his sons-in-law, John, Michael and David; and his grandchildren, Tera, Karla, Daniel, Kelly, Craig, Laura, Kevin, Steven, Derek, Matthew, Joseph, Andrea and Johnny. He was predeceased by a grandson, Paul Potkaj, on July 5, 1998.
