Elizabeth Frances Dougherty

Elizabeth Frances Dougherty, 66, of 122 Notch Road died yesterday morning at North Adams Regional Hospital after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Born in North Adams on Jan. 5, 1936, daughter of John E. and Mildred Hudgins Mahoney, she was a 1953 graduate of Drury High School. Mrs. Dougherty was employed by the North Adams Municipal Employee Credit Union at City Hall, retiring in 1999. She first worked at the former Sprague Electric Co., the former Breen's Flower Shop and the former Treasure Chest. She also was an auditor and office manager at the former J.C. Penney Store in North Adams before being transferred to the Berkshire Mall. She returned to its catalog store in North Adams and worked there until it closed. She was a communicant of St. Francis' Church and a Red Sox fan. She leaves a daughter, Jane Marie Lamarre of North Adams; two sons, Daniel J. Dougherty of Adams and Shaun Dougherty of North Adams, and a brother, William B. Mahoney of Lodi, Calif. FUNERAL NOTICE -- Services for Elizabeth Dougherty will be Wednesday, Oct. 30, at 10 at FLYNN & DAGNOLI-MONTAGNA HOME FOR FUNERALS, West Chapels, with a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 11 at St. Francis of Assisi Church. Burial will be in Southview Cemetery. Calling hours at the funeral home will be tomorrow, Oct. 29, from 4 to 8. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations are suggested for the Eileen Barrett Oncology Unit of North Adams Regional Hospital through the funeral home, 521 West Main St., North Adams, MA 01247. Survivors include daughter and her husband, Jane Marie and David Lamarre; a son, Daniel J. Dougherty; a son and his wife, Shaun and Sheila Lawson Dougherty; a brother, William B. Mahoney, and nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. She was predeceased by two sisters, Dorothy Garofano and Mary Ann Tassone, and two brothers, John E. Mahoney and Daniel A. Mahoney, who was killed in the Battle of the Bulge on Feb. 25, 1945.
