Joseph Peter Prenguber

Joseph Peter Prenguber, 85, of 1100 Mohawk Trail died Monday at North Adams Regional Hospital following a brief illness. Born in North Adams on Sept. 10, 1917, son of Giusseppe and Serena Brondoni Prenguber, he was a 1935 graduate of Drury High School. He also attended the former Bliss Business College in North Adams. He and his father purchased the Berkshire Bakery during the 1940s. Following his father's retirement, he operated it until the 1960s when he sold the business. He also worked at GE for 19 years, both before and after his ownership of the bakery. He first worked for the former Gale Shoe Co. in North Adams. Mr. Prenguber was a lifelong communicant of St. Anthony of Padua Church. He was a former member of the North Adams Sons of Italy, North Adams Lodge of Elks and the Stamford Valley Golf Club in Stamford, Vt. He was also an avid fan of Drury High School sports. He leaves his wife, the former Elizabeth A. DelNegro, whom he married May 3, 1941, in St. Anthony Church. Besides his wife, he leaves a daughter, Patricia Allen of Livermore Falls, Maine; a son, Joseph N. Prenguber of Clarksburg; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. FUNERAL NOTICE -- Services will take place Friday, Nov. 1, at 9:30 at the FLYNN & DAGNOLI-MONTAGNA HOME FOR FUNERALS, West Chapels, followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10:30 at Our Lady of Mercy Church, 610 State Road, North Adams. Burial will follow in Southview Cemetery. Calling hours are Thursday, Oct. 31, from 4 to 7. Omission of flowers is requested. Memorial donations are suggested for the St. Jude Children's Fund, the North Adams Little League or St. Anthony Centennial Fund through the funeral home, 21 West Main St. Survivors include his wife, Elizabeth DelNegro Prenguber; daughter and husband, Dr. G. William Allen and Patricia Allen; son and wife, Joseph N. and Patricia Sacco Prenguber; grandchildren, Carolee Carlin, Brad Allen, Joey Collins and Daniel Prenguber; great-grandchildren, William Carlin, Catherine Carlin and Jude Collins; nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. He was predeceased by a sister, Mary Prenguber, in 1946. He was a loving and beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He was an avid fan of Drury High School athletics.
