John Bernard Flannery

John Bernard Flannery, 87, of 19 Elder Ave. died Saturday evening at Sweet Brook Care Center in Williamstown. Born in West Hartford, Conn., on July 28, 1915, son of John and Anna Shea Flannery, he moved to North Adams as a child and graduated from Drury High School. An Army veteran of World War II, he was awarded the Bronze Star while serving with Gen. George Patton's 3rd Army, 734th Field Artillery Regiment, in the European theater. He was discharged with the rank of corporal. Mr. Flannery was employed by the North Adams Transcript for many years, retiring in the 1970s. He was a communicant of St. Francis' Church and a Boston Red Sox fan. His wife, the former Evelyn Margaret Daunais, whom he married Sept. 17, 1945, died Feb. 8, 2000. He leaves a daughter, Kathleen Silc of Falls Church, Va., and a brother, Francis Flannery of Barre, Vt. FUNERAL NOTICE -- The funeral for John B. Flannery will be tomorrow, Nov. 12, at 12:15 at FLYNN & DAGNOLI-MONTAGNA HOME FOR FUNERALS, West Chapels, 521 West Main St., North Adams, with a funeral Mass at 1 at St. Francis of Assisi Church. Burial will be in Southview Cemetery. Calling hours at the funeral home will be today from 5 to 7. Donations are suggested to VNA & Hospice of Northern Berkshire in care of the funeral home. Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Kathleen and Richard Silc of Falls Church, Va.; a brother, Francis Flannery of Barre, Vt., and nieces and nephews. Two sisters, Katherine Guilfoyle and Mae Walker, are deceased.
