Mary E. Decker

Mary E. Decker, 86, formerly of East Center Street and Lenox Dale, died yesterday at Laurel Lake Center, where she had resided since 1997. Born in Pittsfield on Aug. 31, 1916, daughter of Henry and Mary Tracy Mougin, she attended Lee schools and was a 1934 graduate of Lee High School and a 1938 graduate of the nursing program at Mercy Hospital in Springfield. She moved to Lenox Dale in 1960, back to Lee in the early 1980s and to Browning Memorial Court in 1990. Mrs. Decker was employed as a nurse for Dr. Donald Campbell of Stockbridge, retiring in 1989. She had first worked as a visiting nurse and as a school nurse in Lee and, in the 1940s and '50s, was head surgical nurse at Hillcrest Hospital in Pittsfield. She was a communicant of St. Mary's Church, a member of Bossidy-Crerar VFW Post 893 and a former member of the Lee Visiting Nurse Association. While in Lenox Dale, she was a communicant and a Sunday school teacher of St. Vincent de Paul Church. Her husband, John E. Decker, whom she married Nov. 28, 1953, died May 31, 1989. She leaves a son, Timothy S. Decker of Pittsfield; a daughter, Marybeth Fennelly of Lee, and six grandchildren. FUNERAL NOTICE -- Mrs. Mary E. Decker leaves her loving grandchildren, Shaun, Gregory, Christopher, Ricky, John and Luke. The funeral will be Saturday morning at 9:15 from KELLY FUNERAL HOME, followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10 at St. Mary's Church. Burial will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery. Visiting hours at the funeral home will be Friday from 4 to 7. In lieu of flowers, friends wishing may make donations to St. Mary's School in care of the funeral home, 3 Main St., Lee, MA 01238.
