Rita Mae Barnes

Rita Mae Barnes, 78, of 56 Baker St. died Saturday at Hillcrest Commons in Pittsfield, where she had resided since Nov. 15. Born in Pittsfield on Sept. 30, 1924, daughter of Homer and Mae Foster Gero, she was a 1937 graduate of St. Joseph's High School. Mrs. Barnes was a homemaker. She was a communicant of St. Charles' Church in Pittsfield and was involved with the Lanesboro Senior Center, the Council on Aging, Retired Senior Volunteer Program and Elder Services. She enjoyed bowling, playing cards and crocheting. Her husband, Walter O. Barnes, whom she married Sept. 30, 1940, died June 16, 1988. She leaves a son, Edward F. "Skip" Barnes of Pittsfield; a daughter, Marie A. Barnes of Lanesboro; three grandchildren, and two great-granddaughters. FUNERAL NOTICE -- Mrs. Rita Mae Barnes, 78, will be lovingly missed by her grandchildren, Rick, Tina and Tanya, and her great-granddaughters, Tasha and Velvet. The funeral for Mrs. Barnes, who died Saturday, Dec. 7, 2002, will be Wednesday at 9:15 from DERY FUNERAL HOME, with a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10 at St. Charles' Church celebrated by the Rev. Peter A. Gregory, pastor. Burial will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery. Calling hours will be tomorrow, Dec. 10, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Lanesboro Volunteer Fire Department or the Lanesboro Senior Center, both in care of the funeral home, 54 Bradford St., Pittsfield, MA 01201.
