Jerome Edwin "Chip" Morgan Jr.

Jerome Edwin "Chip" Morgan Jr., 72, of 1052 Beaver Pond Meadow, Jericho Road, died Monday at the North Adams Regional Hospital, where he had been admitted Friday. Born in Lancaster, Pa., on Aug. 16, 1930, son of Jerome E. and Mary Caufield Morgan, he attended schools in Holyoke and graduated from Holyoke High School in 1948. While in high school, he excelled in basketball and baseball. He later attended Tabor Academy and graduated from the University of Massachusetts, where he was a member of the varsity basketball team. He moved to Hancock in 2000. A Korean War Army veteran, he was honorably discharged with the rank of sergeant. Mr. Morgan was employed as a business consultant, beginning his career on Wall Street. He later worked at Spalding Sports and in Mississippi in the furniture manufacturing business. He was also employed in Chicago for some time until he founded his own business consulting firm, Morgan Associates, in Denver. He lived in Colorado until his retirement, when he moved to New London, Conn. He enjoyed golfing. He authored and published a book about the sport, "The Golf Log." He leaves his wife, the former Patricia A. Mowbray, whom he married Dec. 9, 2000, in New Ashford; a daughter, Jill Smyth of Stamford, Conn.; a sister, Anne Morgan of Stamford, Conn., and two grandchildren. He was predeceased by a son, Mark Morgan. FUNERAL NOTICE -- Funeral services for Jerome Morgan will be held Saturday, Dec. 14, at 10 a.m. at the Barry J. Farrell Funeral Home, 2049 Northampton St., Holyoke. Burial will follow in the family lot in St. Jerome's Cemetery in Holyoke. Calling hours at the funeral home are Saturday morning from 9 a.m. until the funeral. Survivors include two grandchildren, Bradley and Matthew Smyth of Stamford, Conn.; and one niece and one nephew. A son, Mark Morgan, is deceased. A brother and a sister, William Morgan and Maureen Rudzik are also deceased. The FLYNN & DAGNOLI-MONTAGNA HOME FOR FUNERALS, West Chapels, 521 West Main St., North Adams, is in charge of the arrangements.
