Morris Joseph Roseman

Morris Joseph Roseman, 102, of West Stahl Road, Ashley Falls, died yesterday morning at home. Born in New York City on Jan. 6, 1900, son of Jacob and Miriam Greenspan Roseman, he graduated from Morris High School and earned a bachelor of science degree from City University in New York and his doctor of jurisprudence from New York University. He taught American and European history at Theodore Roosevelt High School in New York City for 43 years, retiring in 1964. He was also chairman of the program committee for 35 years. He was a lover of classical music, especially opera. He was an avid reader and enjoyed fresh-caught trout, and leek and potato soup made from vegetables from his garden. His wife, the former Ruth Vieht, whom he married Dec. 31, 1926, died in September 1996. He leaves two daughters, Jessica Roseman of Ashley Falls and Deborah First of Chatauqua, N.Y., four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. FUNERAL NOTICE -- Morris Joseph Roseman, 102, died Dec. 20, 2002. He also leaves four grandchildren, Kate, Josh, Melissa and Zachary, and six great-grandchildren. A committal service will be conducted Sunday, Jan. 5, at 1 at Ashley Falls Cemetery on Clayton Road by the Rev. Arthur Kaufman. A gathering of family and friends will follow at Trinity Methodist Hall in Ashley Falls. There will be no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Senior Center at Dewey Hall in Sheffield or to HospiceCare of the Berkshires through FINNERTY & STEVENS FUNERAL HOME, 426 Main St., Great Barrington, MA 01201.
