Tarn C. Peters

Tarn C. Peters, 43, of 57 East St. died Tuesday after a long fight with Lou Gehrig's disease. Born in Allentown, Pa., on Dec. 3, 1959, son of Margaret Peters Ross of Warwick, N.Y., and the late Dale C. Peters, he was a 1977 graduate of Warwick Valley High School. He served in the Coast Guard for four years in Kodiak, Alaska. He and his wife, the former Joan Flanagan, were married Aug. 14, 1984, in Warwick. He worked as a landscaper before becoming a self-employed cabinetmaker. He operated the former East Mountain Hardwood Co. before the business was destroyed by fire in 1996. He was an avid basketball player and studied karate for many years. He was a past member of Cinnatus Lodge AF & AM of Great Barrington and was a member of Christ Church in Sheffield. Besides his mother, he is survived by a daughter, Lily, at home; his stepfather, Jamie Ross of Warwick; a brother, Jay Peters of Detroit; two sisters, Tara Remick of Housatonic and Noelle Ross of Pennsylvania, and his stepmother, Paula Hellman of Great Barrington. Another daughter, Rachel Peters, died Nov. 12, 1996. PETERS -- Funeral services for Tarn C. Peters will be Saturday, Dec. 28, 2002, at 11 a.m. at St. James' Episcopal Church in Great Barrington, with the Rev. Susan Crampton, pastor of Christ Church in Sheffield, officiating. Burial will follow in Elmwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Friday, Dec. 27, from 4 to 8 p.m. at the BIRCHES-ROY FUNERAL HOME. Expressions of sympathy may be made to the ALS Center of St. Peter's Hospital, the Hearts of the Father Outreach program, or the Southern Berkshire Performing Arts Center in care of the funeral home, 33 North St., Great Barrington, MA 01230.
